Valve adjustment

Not sure of how the valves are adjusted using the "Rule of 9" Can someone explain ?

I don't usually use that method, but some people do. A Major Diesel engine has 8 valves. If #1 valve is closed #8 will be too,because 1+8=9. If #2 is closed, #7 will be, too,because 2+7=9. Same with 3 and 6, and 4 and 5. You can adjust the valves that are closed. You don't have to turn the engine to the compression stroke on each cylinder that way, so you don't have to turn the engine as many times to adjust all the valves.
