I have an opportunity to buy a 56 Dexta and don't know anything about them. The fenders are rusted off, and it's kinda beat up. They say it will run if pulled. What kind of 3 cyl diesel is it? Are parts available? What is it worth here in Indiana? Th

Joel: The Dexta was not produced in 1956. It must be a 58 or later.

The Fordson Dexta uses a Perkins 142 ci diesel engine. You can find parts and alot of advise right here. In my opinion, The fordson's are pound for pound by far the best tractors in their class.

Now for your second question....

Giving the condition of the tractor as you describe, It sounds like a good candidate for a complete restoration if you got lots of time and money and really enjoy tinkering with old tractors. If your wanting a tractor to start using this spring, maybe you should pass. If you have to pull it to start, this could be anything from old diesel in the tank to very low compression to a worn out injector pump. (or all of the above or everything in between)

I paid $2000 for my '61. It runs great, but is a little stubborn when it comes to starting... (Ive found out now that the previous owners use of ether will probably cost me a piston-ring job)

Thats my 2 cents worth...

PS... Many guys on here my like to have it for parts!!!

Correction - That's a Perkins 144 ci engine.
