When I took appart all the fuel lines I had a line coming from the intake to under the fuel tank and not connected to anything. There was no shut off valve just a direct line to the fuel pump. I saw that this line has to do with fuel to the heater. So I put in a valve and a tee into the line so this unknow line is hooked in. Question? is there supposed to be something special this hooks onto? Or is it ok that fuel pools at the heater in the manifold? Thanks in advance for you help. Note: I haven't tried to start it yet with the new line in place. Walt Allen

Hi,

I tried to get a fuel shut off valve/ primer pump from our local Ford/ New Holland for our '62 Super Dexta. (Alberta, Canada)

The number changes up and is replaced by a shut off valve with one outlet and no primer pump. (Need to add another elbow to make it fit.)

After market valves are available but some owners have had trouble with them leaking.

Anyone find a good replacement?

Les

I had a talk with the New Holland parts man. (Nice person to talk to). Said it was best to eliminate the primer and plug off the line unless you are in a cold climate. I would still like to hook up the primer but for now this answer will suffice. That said. If anyone knows of a place where I can get a primer to do this it would be appreciated. Walt

Hello Walter, Your Ford/New Holland Dealer should be able to order one for you. Make sure you tell him that it is for the Super Dexta and not the Ford 2000. You can run the tractor the way it is, it will not hurt anything. It just doesn't start as easy in cold weather if you have the wrong shut off valve. The line coming from the manifold does not have fuel in it.

That line from the manifold is for cold starts. If it is not hooked up, then you do not have the original shut off valve under the tank. The original shut off valve has a connection so that the cold start aid connects to it. The shut off valve probably went bad and they replaced it with one for a regular Ford 2000 instead of a Super Dexta. The Dexta valve is around 75.00 from a dealer and the shut off valve for the Ford 2000 is around 12.00. Hope this helps. Bob

That line is for a cold start aid. It connects to the fuel tank valve where the cold start pushbutton primer is. Dont connect it to a constant flow of fuel, youll end up with a crankcase full of fuel. If youre not going to use it plug it off.

James: Thank You! Though I haven't yet started it I did hook it up. Before I do anything I will plug it off till I get the right fuel shut off. Thanks again Walt Allen
