had a local started/atlternator shop rebuild my original on my 56. wanted to keep it original, basically was cheaper to do as there was no shipping charge.

russell,i had the same problem with my '61 sm.if it does'nt have to be OEM,then you can go with the starter from a ford 4000,it will bolt right in place,all you have to do is rewire the starter,starter button or switch and battery,it's very simple,and a lot less expensive.

thats what im wondering I dont care about rewiring it or it being original I just want to get it started again my old just burnt out can you tell me what model to tell the dealer or should I just say ford 4000 thanks for your help really.....

Bareco, It was about $220 us. and Comes with a conversion switch so you just turn the key like on a normal tractor. I got one for my 64 about 2 years ago and it works great. They are brand new, never used.

just ask for a ford 4000 starter,if they ask if it has 3 bolt holes say yes.

hey ford-s will a ford 3000 gas work I measured it and its bolt pattern is right on 4 inchs on center how about the teeth the fordson starter is 11teeth the ford 3000 4000 is ten what difference would that make thanks again folks..

don't know if 3000 will fit.the 4000 will.someone on this web page informed me.i have been stuck on yt every since.that was about 6-7 years ago.whenever i restore a tractor i always go to the forums,there are a lot of people out there who are willing to help,people i call friends.right now i am restoring a '59-'60 fordson power major.hope you get your sm running soon,e-mail me a pic at cw_32218@yahoo.com
