Removing front crank bolt on a '64 FSM

I need to replace the front oil seal on a 64 diesel FSM and therefore have to remove the front crank bolt. Are there any tricks to "locking up" the crank so this bolt can be removed and eventually replaced without having to remove the oil pan or messing anything up? Does anyone know what the torque spec is. I have a service manual on order but it might be a week or so before I see it.

thanks in advance

Keeping safety precautions in mind, you could set the wrench on the nut and then hit the starter motor to kick it loose.

thanks mechanicfred. I had tried that but there was too much play. I was trying to remove the balancer without removing the radiator. I ended up removing the radiator and everything became much simpler. thanks again
