Does anyone know what the paint codes are to a '53 fordson major diesel? I had them looked up, and they came back with the following;
Dupont 27863- blue
Dupont RS554- red
Dupont RS570-red

Anyone know which red is correct? The paint is very deteriorated and I have nothing to go by.

Thanks!

Nate

Hi Nate;
Here is a photo of my 1954 Fordson Major (KFD Orchard version) just been restored.
The body is EMPIRE BLUE including the grills. To get a good paint colour match - if you have lights take them apart the colour inside the light body will not have faded; or remove the fuel tank and the colour inside the steering column hole will not have faded.
There isnt a defined colour for the wheels, they are ORANGE. Most people here use Howard Rotovator orange (slightly darker than old Case D orange - flambeau red).
Some people pain their 1952-57 Major grills orange Ford DID NOT PAINT THEM ORANGE ! The later Power Major & Super Major 1958-63 were silver; the last Fordson 5000 Super Major had grey wheels & grills.
Cheers David

very nice looking tractor!! Thanks for the help. I was told from another source that the orange used on the 8n's in the same era is the color used on the wheels.

The coulor you are looking for is Ford(son) Empire blue, there are several different shades of Ford and Fordson blue but Empire blue is the one for a New Major

Here are some PPG's paint codes for Ford tractors
they don't list one just for Fordson. You would need to look at the paint chips. Hal
71969-red
12809-blue
12720-blue
12908-dark blue
2833-red
PS: I used PPG's red paint code 71310 on a Troy Bilt tiller. I used their Omni single stage paint with hardener.

I can't give you the paint codes, but New Majors were painted Empire Blue with orange wheels and blue or white grills. There's no red on them.

Yeah, I knew the majority of the tractor was blue, but we couldn't identify the other color. My grandfather remembered it being red, and it's hard to tell from pictures. Thanks for the help!

If Grandpa remembers them being red, you might want to paint them red even if its not the right color. We have a "55 Major that"s been in the family since "64 and the wheels have always been gray. If I ever get around to painting it, I doubt that the wheels will be orange.
