Super Major with vacuum governor, cranks perfect but no start. Will not pop, nothing. Tractor has been stored for over a year; was running great when put up.
With a small spritz of ether it fires immediately, then dies. New fuel, new filter.
Have bled and re-bled lines. When I bleed the pump screw with the lifter, there is good strong squirt of fuel. Crack the injector nut at the head, no fuel to injector. Rack is not sticking, governor works perfect, fuel enrichment button works fine and does not stick in. Seems like there is fuel at the pump, but not from pump to injector. What now? Could the Simms pump have gone from working perfect to no pressure at all, having not been used for a year? If the pump is stuck in some way, can it be freed up?

Mine was doing the same thing when I got it. If you remove the injector lines from the pump and the head, you can remove the nozzles on top of the injector pump. Be careful there is a spring and a hat under it. Once you get the nozzle and springs out you will see the lower hat. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and very carefully wiggle the lower hat until free. The lower hat is only 1/4 inch round, and there is a piece on the bottom of it that looks like a float needle in a carb. Once they have all been broke loose and cleaned and reinstalled you can use the primer pump on the fuel pump to clear out any debris or old fuel ( be sure to put your fingers over the hats because they will get pumped out by the fuel). Reassemble and bleed injector lines can crank up your Major.

I would pull the pump too and have a reputable repair shop to check it out like Real Diesel Injection Service. 1-888-349-9461. Hal

On further examination, the plungers (valves?) in the pump are stuck. So now the question is: Can they be freed up some how without disassembly?

Personally I would take it to a diesel pump rebuilder and have them check it out. It might need new seals etc from sitting for awhile. It takes very specialized equipment and a clean room to work on diesel fuel pumps and injectors.

Thanks,

Scott
