6 to 12 volt wiring diagram

I just bought a '50 TO20 that has been wired 12 volt - or should I say jury rigged 12 volt. It has an alternator, Delco I think, and it has a single pole toggle to cut out the charge when the battery doesn't need charge (you have to watch the gauge). The regulator (not now wired in) coil, points, condenser etc. seem to be the original 6 volt and there is a rectangular ceramic resistor wired in near and distributor. When I can get it started it runs ok – maybe a little rough, but leaning the carb seems to have taken care of that. The problem is starting. I pulled plugs and the spark is weak, so weak I am surprised it starts at all. Does anyone have a good wiring diagram and parts list for changing 6 volt to 12 volt? I assume that since the 12 volt alternator puts out I would need to replace the regulator with a 12 volt (getting rid of the toggle) and replace the coil with a 12 volt. I assume the points set doesn’t care 6 or 12, but what about the condenser? Oh, my distributor is a Delco with clips.

Hi, Bill --

The folks over on the Ferguson board will probably know the answer to this.

Go to the YT home page, and the Ferguson board is the eighth one listed, just below "Farmall" and right before "Ford."

The TO-20 was manufactured after Harry Ferguson's involvement with the Ford Motor Company concluded, so there's really no tie-in with Fordson.

Hope you learn what you need to from the good folks over on the Ferguson board.

A TO20 is not a FORDSON. Go to FERGUSON.CENTAUR
