Hello, This is a picture of my 1923(?) Model F. It has a makeshift gasoline starting tank on it for the moment. I would like to find an original cast iron gasoline starting tank for it, but have a question. The gas line from the cast iron tank is in the bottom of the tank, which is much lower than the Kingston vaporizor that the tractor has. How is the gasoline supposed to get into the vaporizer from this lower position? Thank you. Greg

Butch,

Thank you! This helps. It made no sense the way that it appeared to be. I might already have a two hole tank and the proper original fuel strainer on a parts tractor. Don't know if you can make it out in the picture, but the strainer looks like an elongated pear and is shielded mostly with metal. Hardly a stitch of paint on the parts tractor, but everything that is not missing, seems to function. Thanks again, Greg

I'd go with the two hole tank if it's in good shape. Then everything will be correct. Not exactly for the year but nobody will know anyway and what difference would it make. Hang on to those industrial front wheels. They are pretty rare. Look at my Hadfield Penfield conversion in the tractor photo section.

That Hadfield is pretty neat! The front wheels are slightly different in that there are four bolts on the perimeter of the rim. As for the rest of the tractor, there probably are not very many of those left, are there? Without differential braking, is it difficult to steer?

It actually came with a brake on each track but they obviously were very inefficient. Mine had been removed. It steers pretty well with the regular Fordson steel wheels but with the industrial wheels it pushes as it can't dig in. Good thing we don't have to make a living with this old stuff now. OSHA would have lots of business.

Greg, Your 1923 came with a Holley "280" manifold which would have used the small starting tank bolted to the airwasher. Somewhere along the line a later manifold was installed on your tractor. The later Kingston setup that you have required a two compartment feul tank with two bungs. The bung to the rear being the starting tank. The later tank's feul line came from the rear of the tank through a different fitting. The tank that you have on the tractor is designed for the earlier manifold. What you can do in this situation is remove the original sediment bulb and install a modern bowl from a 9n. This will put your feul line high enough. Hope this helps you. Nice tractor!

Also, the correct sedement switch can be installed but they are hard to find. Probably the best thing to do. They come up on ebay now and then. You probably don't want to put a shiny glass bowl on it. Actually it will work with the original bowl as the feul will find it's own level. Is this clear as mud??
