I am looking to buy a Fordson Power Major but need some claification on serial numbers. On the right front (of engine block) is stamped 1585143 indicating a 1961 Power Major. But there is also stamped (near the same location)another number--e1addn-6056 13167?? would this be an e1a diesel designation??

That is probably just the part number for the engine block possibly. My parts manual is out in the barn for me to double check. E1A specifies that it is a "new" major and not a older E27N major.

All of the bigger parts on the tractor generally have part numbers cast into them.

I have a diesel power major also, great machine for its time.

Thanks for the heads up. I am a newcomer to the Fordson Majors and still a little confused as to how to determine year & model. I understand production of the 'Power' Major began with serial #1583906 in 1961. However production of the 'Super' Major began in Oct 1960 with serial #1575886. Did the the two models overlap each other for a few years?? If so, how can I confirm year and model??

The information that I have says the Power Major began production in 1959 with serial# 1481091. The Super Major came out in Oct. 1960 with serial# 1575886. The different versions of the Major didn't overlap, they were upgrades on the previous one. I hope this helps.
