Greg -- If you've ever seen any of my other postings in this forum, you'll have seen me say, "It's not what it's worth, it's what it'll fetch!" If you'd like to own a Fordson Model F, this sounds like a pretty good deal, provided that the tractor is complete (i.e., manifold & vaporizer are there and not rusted through) and the sheet metal is truly straight (especially the fuel tank -- those tend to rust through around the tank straps, and the steel wheels have not rotted through from sitting in contact with the ground in one spot for too long). A good set of straight fenders is worth a few hundred bucks nowadays. Also, keep in mind that the Fordson F was a pioneer in the "power farming" industry, and as such, it's rather primitive compared to the modern tractors that are available today. The Model F was basically a mechanized horse, i.e., it was designed to pull horse-drawn implements. If you want a beast of burden to do real farming with, you'd be better served by a more modern tractor with hydraulics and/or a three-point hitch. What are the three implements? If you have a moldboard plow (one- or two-bottom) or a sickle bar mowing attachment that runs off the belt pulley, either one could be worth a couple hundred dollars, as well. The way I look at it, no matter what they are, they sweeten the deal. (Take a look through the photo ads on this site -- under "Marketplace" at the left of this page -- and see what certain antique implements are selling for these days.) If you are looking for a good hobby tractor and not something to resell, I'd say buy it. Sounds fair to me, and sounds like it'll fetch $1500, whether it is you who buys it, or someone else. My 2¢ worth. Your mileage may vary. -- Maine Fordson
