I have a 1962 Dexta. It has positve to ground. Why is this done this way? What if I need to boost this from a negative to ground batery or add a charger to batery?

(+) ground was common back then.

Not to worry, though, simply match the charger's leads to the marking next to the terminal posts on the battery... black lead to (-), red lead to (+), just as you would with a (-) ground system.

Same for booster cables... at BOTH ends, match the polarity of the cables to the polarity markings next to the battery posts.

When using booster cables, DO NOT let any metal parts of the two vehicles touch, as that would case a BIG spark, while the cables are hooked up.
