A friend of mine gave me a Fordson Power Major and I brought her home today. This tractor belonged to my father inlaw years ago and has been past around the neighborhood several times thru the years. I looked up the serial number and it is a 1960 Model Year. I would like to know what the correct color, or colors it is suppose to be painted as it has been painted red and I'm sure that isn't right. Also, it has no brakes. Is this a common problem among these? This one has a live PTO and Live Hydrolics. I put a clutch in it about 10 years ago for the fellow I got it from and it was a two stage arrangement. It hasen't been used very much since. Also I was wondering what the HP rating is. Will it work good with a brush hog? Thanks, Dave!

Hi;
Congratulations on getting one of the "best" and most successful tractors ever made. The gross HP is 52 at engine.
Colour body = EMPIRE BLUE as standard colour, dont paint it Ford blue is wrong. You could get accurate match from original from under the dash (where the clocks are mounted).
Colour wheels = orange (most use Howard Rotavator orange in England)
Colour grills = silver DONT paint them orange !!!
Good luck with your restoration.
David

Should be a useful tractor. Standard colors were blue and orange. (Codes are elsewhere) Some customized ones used red hoods and radiator cowls. These were made into tandems for 4 x 4. It's about a 50 hp tractor.

After some tinkering and installing a good battery the old Power Major started up after sitting for about two or more years. It runs very well. This is a diesel model. I backed it off of the trailer and ran it around the yard for a while. Are there any "Best" Suppliers for parts? I noticed that the intake hose is in bad shape and needs replacing. Also I will need brake parts. The gages in the dash are pretty rough. The tack needle is broken off but the glass is still intact and the face is decent. The instrument cluster is unreadable and nothing works in it. Is there a source for these somewhere? Also there is a filler plug missing just forward of the clutch peddle. Someone put a wooden stopper in it.
