The best book in my mind is the Fordson Photo Archive. This covers Fordsons from the early prototypes thru 1928. Since these are all old photos taken when these tractors were new, or nearly new, they show very well what pieces were on the tractors when new for a given year. You just need to study every photo very closely. Another good source is the original parts manuals. These might not have the best pictures, but will tell you what year a given part was used. Stay away from the books with the fancy color pictures, they have so many mistakes and misinformation. Also remember, probally over 90% of fordson model "F" tractors that are out there today are not 100% original. Most all have had parts swapped around between many different tractors just to keep them running. Also with all the aftermarket pieces availible back in the day, many have ad-on extras (magdrives, govenors, shiftable pulleys, etc.) Alot of these extras is what make a fordson standout amoung the the common ones. I've been around Fordsons for 30 years, and am still learing or finding small differances I never seen before. This is one of the things that make collecting Fordsons fun. Henry Ford made changes at any time not just at the end of a production year, so many times it is almost impossible to determine if a given tractor has all its original feaures that it came off the line with. Bottom line is, if it starts and runs good, and you are having fun with it, who cares if it 100% original. There are only a handfull of guys in the country that can truly tell if a Fordson 100% original anyhow. If you want to learn about them and know for yourself what is original, be patient, open minded, and don't believe everything that is written. A picture is truly worth 1000 words when it comes to a Fordson. If you have any questions I'll be glad to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
-Steve
