Major Diesel tire sizes and misc questions?

The tractor I am considering purchasing has only one good rear tire. The front has 7.50 – 16’s and the rear has 18.4 30’s. The tires seem large for a tractor of its size. I need to replace three tires. What sizes it is supposed to have? I am not sure if it is a super. How do I tell? What is different about the super? This tractor does not have power steering. Do supers use the same tires? I may keep the loader on the tractor too. It has a live pump out the front and is in excellent condition. Will this tractor steer hard without power steering and a loader? Can you put factory or after market power steering on these? Where can I find the power steering?

Most Majors sold in the U.S. had 16.9x30 rear tires.

1. Tyres can be what you like. The tractor came out with 600x19 front but 650x16 and 750x16 were options. Rear were 11x36 but again lots of options.

2.Serial numbers from under No.1 injector. Date codes from all the cast parts. A better picture of the hydraulic lift will all enable us to identify Major or Super Major. Date code is something like A29H or 3A29.

3. Power steering was an option not a standard spec. If it has done 40 years without it steering can't be too bad. My ones don't have PAS and they are OK. Thrust bearings on the stup axles must be in good condition though.

4.PAS is available but costly and a bit like hens teeth. You would also need a new waterpump as this is different on a PAS tractor.

1. OK on the tires 2. By hydraulic lift you mean the 3 point? It looks like it was added to the tractor later. The paint is a different color and the 3 point is in very bad shape. I found new 3-point parts on the internet. I can't find the top lifting arms that connect to the top rear of the tractor. These are homemade on this major. Are these easy to find? Are they the same as an older ford 5000?

I will look for numbers underneath the #1 injector.

3 and 4 I will try it without power steering first.

You need to know whether you have a Major or a Super before you get parts like lift arms. The lifts are totally different and bits for one will not fit the other. and you cannot fit a Super lift on a Major.
