You guys might laugh, but my air intake rubber tube broke in half on my 62 FSM, and I was tired of that oil bath stuff so I bought some rubber tubing and connected an old K&N conical filter I had laying around to it. It breathes easier now, and throttle response is pretty much instantaneous, I found that out when mowing around a tree and a tree branch caught my throttle lever, and VROOOM instant full throttle...haha wasnt funny when it happened though...

If you want some black smoke and little more go. turn the fuel adj. screw on the back end of the SIMMS pump all the way out. the 15.5's are a good idea. The best power gain is to throw that old breather away and run a K&N type.

My dad and I pull with a 53 Major diesel. All we did is gutted out the air filter cansiter and replaced it with a oiled foam filter. We just finished widing the 38 inch rims to fit 15.5 on the rims. We never run out of power and she hardly blows black smoke. These are some very tough little tractors. We took out the PTO, Hydralics, belt pulley, and hydralic pump. All of these are optional equipment and can be removed if you have factory cover plates, per the club you pull at rules. We have ours down to 4500 pds. You will need to fab some weight brackets for weights if you want to go into heavier weight class. Have fun and most of all, be safe.
