Don't you start Stefan! Its bad enough with all these US comments!! Don't know where you all get the impression that Lucas was so bad. We had to change all the US Autolite starters on Ford tractors for Lucas ones as the Autolite only lasted about a week before breaking up.

In the 1960's the UK was exporting 200,000 tractors a year and making some 40,000 for the home market. All of these were fitted with Lucas equipment and thats not including the cars and motor bikes. Can't remenber any major problems with electrics. What have I missed? :0)

starter works!dont have complete wiring and it fit a little snug. But I jumped from truck and it sounds better than stock starter. No grind, turned over smooth.(will turn over faster when I put battery in tactor)Thank's for everyone's input changing over was a snap,if you have a super dexta and dont need it to look stock it works great

Be very careful when working on Lucas systems! i've heard that Lucas electrical systems are based on the "smoke" theory! Any wrong connection, or breaking of the wiring cover, or any reason that the smoke comes out of the wiring, will leave you dead in the water, or field, whichever the case may be! Again---BE VERY CAREFUL!! Rustyj

Battery wire goes to the "top" which is the solenoid. The spade is the connection from a switch you will need to add to work the starter. I would not worry about the earth lug as the starter will earth through the chassis.
