I just purchased a fine looking Fordson Major Diesal. 1679 hrs. to be exact. There was mixed coolant in the oil pan. I suspecteded a problem, but for $110 I can not go wrong.
The block is cracked between the 4 liners. Can I get this block welded? Do I need to get a used block, and whom may have one, and what may I expect to pay for one? Gentlemen, thank you for your time and help. K.F.C.

Woodache, do you have any extra sheet metal for a Super Major? I have an extra Simms injection pump, early fender, etc, that I would trade for a set of late model fenders, hood, seat, etc.

I have given this tractor trade some thought, so would you please give me some more details on this INT 544, ie. d oes it run, will it move, what is the tin like, how are the tires and do they hold air, can this tractor be used in its presant condition? Bear with me Woodache, on this one. I have some hauling and farming to do, befor I do any thing to this tractor, of mine. Majorman tells me that you have a engine block that will fit this 1961 Super Fordson Diesal of mine. Is it a useable block etc. Thank you for your time and help, Woodache. Kurt

Woodache, thank you for the reply. I live in the south east corner of WA. in a little farming town called Burbank. Right where the Snake River dumps into the Columbia River. I"am realy relying on suchfolks as yourself, to help me with this Fordson Major Diesal.SER#1610241. This number I got off from the right hand front corner of the block. Most of these tractors I have seen in Canada, on my hauling trips. I buy sell and trade mostly Farmalls, and they are what I grew up with too.
Woodache, where can I get books on this tractor, while I"am asking questions?
Woodache, take care, and thank you for your time and help. Kurt

Thanks for the answers and the advice. You folks out there must be getting your heads together.Majorman'a e-mail, says you have a good block. Also this is a 1961 Super Fordson Major Diesal. This is real good to know, I think. Now the gears are realy turning. What is this International 544 Ind in Quincy like? This may be a route for me to take or at least think about.
Woodache, stay in touch. I get to Davenport every so often. I do some business with Reiner Seed CO. up there. I have known Gene Stuckle for years, and I took some collage classes with his son Mike, back in 1996. Great folks around there.
Take care Woodache. Kurt

Kurt,
You have not got a Fordson Major Diesel. With that serial number you have a July 1961 Fordson Super Major, a totally different beast.

The block that Woodache has would be perfect.

Thanks for the info. So tell me, are youfellows into these Blue tractors? Is this Super Fordson Major Diesal, a rair thing, hard to find, or not to many of them made. I know, t
any tractor is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but how much is this Fordson worth now, and how much would it be worth all fixed up, with what it needs to make it a good running tractor?
Again Majorman, thanks for the help, and take care. Kurt

Thank you for your reply from down under. You folks are realy great. I have only seen maybe a dozen of these tractors, and most of them in Canada, while I was hauling up there. I live in Burbank,WA. It is in the southeaster corner of WA., where the Snake River dumps into the Columbia River. Thanks again for your help in this matter. Take care. Kurt

If the block is cracked at the bottom of the liners there is no way to repair it. You need a s/hand block.

Depending on where you are, this could be a problem.

Howdy, Major man.
Thank you for your reply. I have only seen maybe a dozen of these Blue tractors, and mostly in Canada. I buy, sell ,trade and repair mostly Farmalls. But when I saw this bueaty, reguardless of its problem, I knew I had to trade for her.
The only numbers that I could find on this tractor , was at the upper f4ront right hand corner of the engine block.ser #161o241. What can you tell me about this tractor from these numbers?
I have my liner pullers loaned out, and just as soon as they come home, out come the sleves. That way I can tell if it is cracked lower in the block weeb.Majorman, thank you for your time and help, in this matter. Take care. Kurt

Kurt,
If you have not got the liners out you might find that it is not cracked. It could just be the rubber seals down there. the other possibility is "metal worm" where the liners corrode. Both these are a pretty easy fix.

The tractor is a pretty common one over here in England. They were made at the Ford factory at Dagenham and exported all over the world. From around 1950 up till the 1970's the UK made and exported more tractors than the rest of the world made including the US. A high percentage of these were Fordson. They are built like a tank and will last for years and years.

HP of your Super Major is 51. It will start on the button in cold weather and is pretty simple to work on. Parts may be a problem but Sparex and Bareco hold a lot of the bits.

Having this Super Fordson Major Diesal, is a lot of fun. Hearing from all of you fine folks, with your ideas and advice. Plus, people just stop by to look at it. Most of them are like myself, not have been around them. Thanks aqgain for your advice, and insite to the history of these tractors. If I may, I would like to shair some tid bits with you. I was born and raised in central Michigan. When I was a lot younger, and lived back there, I went through the Henery Ford Musiem, a number of times. When in high school, our F.F.A. Org. went through the Ford Dearborn Farm Machinery Factory, in Dearborn, MI. What a treat that was. My brother has the pictures to prove this statement, In the late1920's, my father was hired and worked for Henery Ford himself, on a Soybean farm in lower MI. His first job there, was to drive a Fordson tractor, pulling a Dearborn Combine, harvesting soybeans. Mr.Fords idea for the Soybeans was for making the gear shift knobs and dash nobs. The soybean oil was used for treating the leather roofs on the Ford vehicles. Thanks again Major man, and take care. Kurt
