My mechanic is rebulinding the engine in my 59 FPM and he says that he is not getting any fuel from the return line. He says that he normally sees fuel on the return line on most of the diesels that he works on.

The injection pump and injectors have been rebuilt and "bench tested" good by a certified rebuild shop.

Thanks Again,

Scott

It is not vital that fuel is going back through the return but it might indicate that there is a restriction in the fuel supply.

The Major system is also slightly different from other systems in that it does not have a return from the pump or an auto bleed system. So the return line would only contain fuel that has not gone through the injectors. Other style of injection pumps bleed fuel into the return line and so there is always a significant amount in the return.

If you have new fuel filters and the tank filter in the tap is clean, I would not worry too much.

Thanks for the help Majorman,

I will relay the information to him.

In the above post you say that there is a "tank filter". I was unaware there is a filter in the tank. How would I get access to the tank filter and does it need to be replaced or just cleaned ??

Thanks,
Scott

The filter is in the tap at the bottom of the tank. You take the tap out and clean it. Its a little nylon tube type filter. The tank needs to be nearly empty and the diesel usually runs down your arm :0)
