Buying a Fordson Super Major

I have the option of buying a Fordson Super Major. I am not sure of the year but it is a diesel, grey/blue color, power steering, and one remote hydraulic out back. Runs but looks like it is going to need paint. How much should I offer? Are parts relatively available for the Fordsons? I never owned a Fordson but are they as good as the Fords. I would appreciate any comments on this tractor. Thanks.

Agriline Products Ltd in the UK

Just do a search on the web for FSM parts suppliers and there are lots of sites

Hey Tweeter:

I recently bought a FSM (1963) for $4000.00 CAD (I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) it has a front blade and bucket.

I love the tractor, everything works great.

My dual clutch will not operate as it should and I suspecct needs adjustment. But the tractor works great, so eventually I will split it and correct the dual clutch problem.

As Majorman indicated, they are great tractors. Simple and robust.

The FSM"s are not very common up here, and quite collectable.

You will not regret your decision to buy a FSM.

At the end of the day, a great tractor and a good investment, as they do hold there value.

Price it seems is totally dependent on location and the old Demand and Supply curve.

Kenneth

Far better than any Ford tractor! (and Ford are the best in my opinion);0) but there again I have had lots of blue injections!

The tractor is descended from the Fordson Major which revolutionised tractor engine design throughout the world.

Up till the 1980's we exported more tractors than the rest of the world added together, most of them being Majors and Nuffields.

They are built like a tank, very robust, simple and easy starting. Parts may be a problem though although most are still available. Live clutch parts may be the worst to get hold of.

Price here in England for that model can range from £500.00 to £2000.00 ($800.00 to $3200.00)depending on condition.

Where would I get parts for this tractor? From a Ford dealer?

If you have plenty of money, yes. Bareco, Vapormatic, Sparex and breakers yards if not.
