Any info to satisfy my insatiable need for knowledge would be great. :):):)

I have to organize some suitable lifting equipment and a set of rails to split the tractor.

I hope I dont do too much damage until I can split it in the spring, as I do not have heat in the garage.

I only use it to move snow, so hopefully the winter will be kind and I wont have to use it much.

Majors from 1957 were built with either standard PTO which drove from the same clutch as the transmission, or "Live" PTO which had a seperate clutch operated by the clutch pedal.

The pedal had two positions. Half way down you stopped the transmission but left the PTO running, fully down and you stopped both transmission and PTO.

Easy way to check which your tractor has is the high/low lever. If low is up and high is down, standard PTO. If low is down and high is up, live PTO.

My 1963 SM should have the Dual Clutch. lever for Low and high is as you specify. Low is down and high is up.

I have tried to adjust the linkage but the first pressure is not working.

In order to change gears I have to depress the clutch until the PTO stops.

there is no bolt at the bottom of the clutch pedal which would prevent it from going through its full travel.

The only othr recourse would be to split the tractor to see what the problem is.

I am assuming I have a dual clutch. It could be a situation of a previous owner putting a single clutch system in it, as I understand the dual clutch is quite expensive to repair.

Tractor works fine and its just a bit of a nuisance not having hydraulics when the clutch is depressed. I am learning to think ahead when operating the blade to move snow.

So in a nutshell, I will just live with it.

You either have wear on the lever adjusters or someone has set the clutch incorrectly as the transmission levers come into contact with the thrust bearing first as you push the clutch down.

If it were mine I would investigate now. Parts are difficult to get and can be expensive. The longer you leave it the more parts you might need. IMHO
