Prior to my purchase of my N, the previous owner had broken the cast iron radiator nut where the diameter gets smaller to go through the cap, and since the extra material is needed to catch the threads on the hold down bolt, I purchased a used one from the UK to replace it. The original had Ford in script cast on the top of the nut. The UK nut has Fordson. Also, the UK nut is slightly larger in diameter where the nut goes through the metal cap, so I will have to either turn the diameter down, or drill out the hole in the cap. Any one ever run into these differences before?

Terry, The replacement knob that you recieved is probably an aftermarket re-cast. When they cast them they use an original as a pattern resulting in a slightly oversized casting. Ford sold replacement caps in the US that had Ford script on the knob to replace the pressed tin caps on the F model. All N model originals had Fordson script.

Thanks again for your reply to this and my previous question that I posted about carb flooding. Based on what you say, my N probably had a US replacement cap nut and the nut that I got from the UK, is probably an original.
