My father recently brought a Fordson Major. There is a small rod running though the front of the block, in front of the injector pump, with small armatures attached. What does this rod control. Thanks

That was the throttle control from pump to manifold on the early engines.

Is this part of the governor. I believe this tractor has a new model injector pump as the throttle control is on the pump. Is this correct with new models.
Thanks

The later models had a linkage around the back of the engine to the manifold. The throttle flap in the manifold set the air being drawn in and that, via metal tubes adjusted the governor on the pump. Some tractors with industrial engines had a mechanical governor which had a direct lik from throttle to pump.

Later tractors from around 1962 had a mechanical governor in a pump called the Minimec. The cylinder block was modified in the casting to take this pump and it would not fit on a block as early as yours, without some major modification. I would be very interested to see a picture of your pump setup if you could post one.
