I checked my copy of a Fordson owner's manual and it said nothing about the sheet metal cup. There were no details on assembling the front casting at the crankshaft and there wasn't a clear cutaway showing every part. There was an X-ray type rendering that had arrows pointing to some of the parts. The felt seal was represented but there was nothing to show if it was in a cup or not.

the only front seal for the engone is a two piece felt that fits in the oil pan and the engine block, nothing on the outside.

I must have the legendary left over piece. the I.D. of the metal cup the felt sets in is the same as the crank output shaft at the fan pully end. It looks like it would onto the crank or maybe the rotor and under the casting thatsupports the front axel.

Bill, A picture would be worth a thousand words here. I concur with Adam on the original Model F seals. I wonder if someone has used a redi-sleeve or speedy-sleeve over the seals if the casting was worn or scored. Just a thought.
