Major still smoking

We're in the middle of haying, and although the Major hasn't worked all that hard yet, I was hoping the blue smoke would have cleared up by now. The machine might have been sitting for a while before I bought it and brought it home, so I figured some running time would clear things up. It did clear up a bit, but I still look for windy days to run it... I recently read to give the machine some hard work, and that might clear things up. I've got a 12-15 acre rolling hill field to work with a two bottom plow and disc - would that be considered harder work? And if there's still blue smoke, do I start looking at down time to change rings? Thanks for any input.

Until you get some hard work done the carbon seal around the pistons will still be "wet" and allow some oil to pass giving you the blue smoke. When she has been hard at work and you still have blue smoke that is when to start thinking of a rework.

Even if you completely rebuilt the engine then did nothing but light work you would get blue smoke and oil out of the exhaust.

Trust me! I'm a lawyer ;).
