My dad just picked up an old steel wheeled Fordson serial number 19700 that looks like an F, but he claims the that it says Model M and we can't find any reference to a Model M anywhere.

Does anybody know what this is or where it was made?

Sounds to me like you have a Samson M. They look enough like a Fordson to fool someone at first glance.

Your serial number indicates a 1918. They were all model F until 1928. In 1929 the model N came out which was produced in Cork Ireland. There was no model M to my knowledge. Where does it say model M? Give me a little description of the tractor and I'll help you identify it. Any markings or words on the manifold and feul tank? Do the radiator side panels have 4 rectagular holes cut out? How many spokes does the rear wheels have? Is there a large cleanout plug on the oil pan or a 1/2" pipe plug? Butch

Thanks for the information. I haven't seen the tractor yet but my Dad will get some pictures for me by Saturday, including the plate that says Model M. It really does look like a Model F.

The radiator does not have the cut outs like he has seen in some Fordsons. One of the gas tanks does say "Gasoline" on it, but he hasn't noticed any other markings. I will have to get back to you once I see the pictures.

Hi Mike, I've never seen a plate on a Fordson designating a model number. Small starting tank may say "gasoline for starting only". Curious to see what you've got there! Butch

It turns out that the plate he was looking at was on the magneto. He found the real serial number and it is a 1927. Sorry for the confusion.
