I am the 2nd generation of my family to have this tractor and as my Father is not available to ask questions of I figured I would start here. Facts are it is a 4 cyl, Marked as a "Major Diesel", non-live clutch (high is down right?). We use it for bush hogging duties only. A 6 ft HD bush hog is 3 point on the rear. It wound down and died on me with no warning the other day. It needs a rebuild and I am trying to figure out where to start. I know I can probably just rebuild the injector pump and it will run but I would like to take the down time and rebuild the motor as well, its last rebuild was probably more than 20 years ago and we use it pretty hard and it has been getting smokey and weaker for years. So a couple of questions: 1. How do I tell exactly which model I have(model, year, displacement-i don't know if there were different ones available)? 2. Are rebuild parts available, sleeves, pistons, clutch since I am there already? 3. Aside from sleeves, pistons, bearings, are there any other parts I need to pay attention to on my Fordson? 4. I have never split a tractor before, how hard is it to do what I am talking about? (I have extensive experience with cars and trucks but nothing more involved than plugs and points on a tractor, if I don't have to split it I imagine I could do the work) 5. If it is too much for me to do is there a shop in the Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, lower Penn. area that anyone can recommend for the work? Thank you very much for your patience and any information you have would be appreciated. i have been trolling the boards and learned some but I figured I would ask direct questions.
