I"m in the midst of putting a loader on my FMD and am going to have to convert to power steering (or go on steroids!). I posted a message some time ago concerning this but need more help. What parts will I need to convert to power steering or power assist steering? (Note there are no farm equipment scrapyards in or near my area, so no old combines can be scrapped out) I was hoping to make a power assist conversion using old truck parts, or possibly fork lift parts!! Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well I just finished doing the same on a Super Major. I used the parts of a 95H JD combine. I can still get parts for another if you want. Had to also put on a priority valve so the loader and steering worked together.

Hi Jarrod. How much did it cost to do the conversion? I have a 1960 Fordson Power Major. What exactly do you do?

Jim

Cost $200 for the valve and rotary valve off a JD 95H combine. Then $60 for a priority valve to put on the pump that runs the loader, which is driven off the engine. Made my own steering column, attached the rotary valve to that. Mounted the steering valve on the left side of the frame, and put the priority valve off the pump, supplying loader and steering. 2 gallons going to steering, rest going to loader. Took the front axle and flipped it around so the tie rod was in front, and bolted one end of the cylinder thru the axle width adjustment holes, and welded the other to the tie rod. I can take pics if this is all confusing. Took about a week to finish, working off and on.
