Hello all, I am back, I finally got my book on the fordsons. I have been reading it , and I come to the section on charging, The first thing that catches my eye is the way the 2 batteries are supposed to be hooked up per the book a nd the way they have the cables hooked on my tractor..' On my tractor they have 2 12 volts , ok there---- they have positive terminal to positive terminal hooked together and to ground---
they have the negative terminal to negative terminal then to the solenoid.. The positive to ground is ok , it is positive ground

well the book shows the 2 12 volts hooked differntly, they show the battery with a positive terminal and a negative terminal hooked together on the one side...-- then the positive on the "free" terminal to ground ,,and the negative on the "free" terminal to the solenoid...

is this the "in series 12 volt " way to hook it up, ??the cables on my tractor look like they were factory made pos to pos, and neg to neg,, any help, thanks pat

The Major originally used two 6 volt batteries connected in series to give a total of 12 volts. Do not hook up two 12 volt batteries in series or you will end up with 24 volts. If everything is in good condition, one good 12 volt battery will do the job.
