Can a FMD engine be used in a SMD? I have located a complete less engine SMD at a very resonable price. Then engine has been removed by the current owner for use in his backhoe. I have a FMD complete engine that I could put in the Super if it would fit. I know that I would lose some horsepower in relation to a true SMD engine, but I don't know where I can find the correct engine for the chassis. I would like to have the better brakes, locking rear, and live pto/hydraulics on the Super.

Hi I have done the same thing a few years back,I only use the tractor for light work and don't really notice the drop in power. If the engine you want to put in is fairly good you probably won't either.
The only thing I had to change was the clutch and flywheel as the doner engine had a single plate clutch, and the super-major gear box was the live-drive / dual clutch.

Good luck

FMD engine will drop straight in with possibly a little modification to throttle linkage depending on the age of the engine.
