I have a 56 Major which has been repowered with a Industrial Motor. It has Mechanical Governer on it instead of a Vacumn Governer. I cant get the same revs out of the motor as the previous vacumn governer motor. The injector pump is a 4 cyl and because of the bigger size of the injector pump and governer, the normal lever operated fuel pump will not fit. The injecter pump has an opening and cover plate on the side for a lever fuel pump, but not the same fuel pump as the tractor would use.My question is what is the visual difference between a standard Major motor and a later model Super Major motor. I have seen photos of a Super Major with a lever type fuel pump mounted on the side of the injecter pump.
Hope someone can help me.

I don"t quite follow your question but my 1962 Super Major came with the fuel pump mounted on the block entirely separate from the injector pump. It has a small lever for priming and bleeding the fuel system. The I&T service manual shows the fuel systems for the vacuum and mechanical governors. I suspect your injector pump may be set for a lower maximum RPM. Hope this helps.

Long Don.
Thanks for your reply.
The mechanical governer part of the injector pump comes past where the lever type fuel pump would mount onto the block, therefore not enough room to mount it.Do you know what might be involved in adjusting the max RPM's to a higher limit?
Thanks
Kiwi Kev

On the regular pump there are throttle lever stop screws on the side of the pump next to the engine, one for the idle speed and one for top speed. You might check whether your throttle lever is actually moving the pump to the full speed position. The top speed adjustment may require removing the pump to get to it, in which case be sure to not change the pump timing. You really need specs for pump timing for your pump, as it is likely different from the standard pump. If you need a fuel pump, you can use an electric pump (for carburetor, not fuel injection). Hope this helps.
