Fellas: Looking for super major engine heater. Takes way too much cranking in cold Minnesota before engine fire up on these cold days ahead of us. Once running, as always happy! Should a guy get generic lower radiator hose type or other alternative???? Do these really help? Mine turns over forever and ever, just when cold takes awhile for fire. Any other options would be great!

I installed an in line coolant heater in the lower rad hose on my "57 Major and it made a big difference. It starts way easier in the cold now. No need for ether now, and it was relatively cheap too! I think what some others here are saying about a rad cover might be well worth looking into as well. I"ve been finding that mine runs cold under normal (normal for me that is, which to me seems more and more like i don"t use it nearly long or hard enough) operating conditions, maybe that doesn"t apply to you though. I think total cost for the heater was under $45 CDN. Well worth that.

Do you use the little button on the fuel pump to help start? Its in the centre of the stop control on the pump. If you have the latest Super you will need to open the throttle about halfway before it will stay in. This will make a difference but if it is really cold then a block heater is the answer.

Definately the lower hose heater. My heater cable is tied off so it does not fall into anything and get torn off. That would be if the machine is belly deap in snow or blackberry bushes. If your temp is below 30F all the time I would look into changing the thermostat or a radiator cover.
