I recently purchased a 1959 fordson major with loader for my hobby farm. I recently purchased the appropriate manuals and would like to know overall,
what other fordson owners think of this tractor and any likes or dislikes about it? As a first time tractor owner, I'm looking forward to many happy hours riding and working with my tractor.

sam.

I also have a "59 Power Major, engine runs sweet, lots of power and always starts first time. As Ron said parts are quite difficult to find, quite the opposite of a 9N.

The only problem with mine when I got it 2 weeks ago was brakes, very simple job. Had the drums turned and shoes relined for $45.00, I wanted to replace the shoe springs but have been unable to find any.

Anyone know of a source?

I have a 1959 fordson with a gasoline engine. It runs but needs all kinds of other things. Do you think it would b worth selling.

overall power is amazing, they are pretty reliable. The bad thing is trying to find parts and when you do they are a little higher priced.

thanks for your input!,the previous owner as I understand took care of my recent purchase, recently he had put a new clutch and being a diesel mechanic himself, there were no leaks whatsoever..very dry..I guess the clutch replacement was one big expense I avoided.

sounds like you might have lucked out. The biggest problem I've heard with these tractors is sheer neglect or abuse by previous owners

Lubricate the injection pump.Look at some of the previous posts on this.It is an often overlooked area.

Enjoy your Power Major. They are good tractors for the money.

I have a '62 Super Major which is my first tractor. I've had it for about four months and have had the time of my life using it. I would recommend that you take it slow and get used to it. As Ron says, they are incredibly powerful, so treat them with respect. Sounds like you've found one of the good ones. Congratulations.
