I have some questions regarding this swap mentioned occtionally in this forum. Was the super major ever offered with this engine from the factory? ( I am refering to the Dagenham 6 cylinder diesel use in some trucks) If this engine was offered from the factory does anyone know where to find out how many were made? what years? where they were made? Thanks for any information you may have.Mike

Ford had the Perkins P-6TA as a FACTORY FITTED OPTION!!!! But not the truck engine. Again, you could order a six cylinder major from the factory. Thousands were produced!! Re-read Gibbards book.

So the E1A Major as well as the E27N had factory sixes then?

Maybe you could tell us which one of Stuart Gibbards book we should buy.

Thanks.

The company decided that the extra power would shorten the life of the tractor to an unacceptable level . I read this in the history of fordson book by stuart Gibbard

Mike,

Ford did investigate fitting the six but never did. All the six cylinder Majors were after market conversions by Roadless, County and other Ford dealerships. Farmers converted their own tractors in later years. Some were well done others were a bodge job.

Roadless and County also used heavy duty clutches and gearbox bearings to cope with the extra power.

This question can be better answered by the English guys.

I was told that there is a "County" Super Six based on a Super Major with a six from a truck.Ford/Fordson did not make this as a factory model at all.So I don't know if that answers your question.

There was also a four cylinder model and it is similar, from what little I know, to the County Super Six.I have searched high and low for this bigger motor. No luck yet.A New Holland 1400 Diesel Combine has this motor. There are a few out there, but none here in the wheat belt of the Pacific Northwest.I am not sure how much trouble it will be but it will not be easy.Swaps never are.

They are rare in the USA. Most County Sixes here are based on the USA Ford 5000.

The County Super 6 used the 401 c.i. engine from the 8000.
