Accelerator Mystery Solved?

Referring to the "Accelerator Mystery" thread below here, I took the governor assembly apart on my Super Major and sure enough, the diaphram had a couple of holes in it. I found the part number (E1ADDN 993115B) and called my local Ford dealer. I was a little surprised to find that the part number was a good one, and even more surprised to find that they wanted 60 bucks for that little piece of rubber! With not much to lose I tried patching the holes with Permatex blue gasket maker. I stretched the diaphram over a light bulb to stretch out the pleats & expose the holes, held it on with a rubber band, and put a coat of silicone over the holes. Let it dry near the woodstove for the day & put it back together tonight. My problems with poor idling were solved. Although its still too early to tell how long the silicone patch will hold.

Thanks to you, Mark 1, for pointing me in the right direction. Not knowing how long my silicone patch will last, I"d be real interested in any cheaper sources for this diaphram you might come up with.

Dave

Oops - in the above post, I should have thanked Ron as well for his correct diagnosis of a hole in the diaphram.

Hi Dave:

Why don't you try the following link for your diaphram problems. This company makes mostly seals, but there isn't much difference between a seal and a diaphram in my estimation:

Mark and Ron are good, I know. But hey, I asked the question that got you some answers, and I'm craving recognition (just kidding!).

You're absolutely right, Woolman, Thanks for asking the pertinent question and getting the ball rolling for me and my precious Super Major. And I'll try that link you sent. And just in case I missed anyone else who's feeling bad, thanks to anyone who had anything to do with this success story.....:-)

Thanks guys. I owe a lot of my problem solving to this site. The Super-M is a great tractor and it is good to see a rebirth through tips and help from everyone on this site.

After my pumphouse is finished for the winter, I will tackle the injection pump and it's parts. I would think we could replace this part with a modern polymer of sorts. Anyone have any ideas on making one?
