Two stage clutch problem

Hi, I have a Fordson Power Major with a 2 stage clutch with PTO and extra gear lever at the rear to engage the PTO. My problem is that I let the oil in the front resevoir get low.( not sure what it all lubricates) ie. the one where you need a spanner to remove a cap and check levels and fill etc. Now i seem to have a problem engaging the PTO. It seems the clutch is not releasing properly. With only a small amount of load the clutch does actually disengage but when there is no load it does not always disengage. Have I damaged something by letting the oil get too low or has something else happened? And is there anyway apart from pulling the thing apart to fix this problem? Is it a big job to repair if I have to?

the fill port you are talking about is the transmission fill, don't run this low! The fill at the rear is for the rear and hydrualics. try to adjust the clutch so it disengages at a higher position. change the fluid in the trans to make sure it's not filled with debris. then give it a good run in each of the gears, you've got nothing to loose. the only things I can think of is that the clutches are malfunctioning or your burnt one of the cluster shafts in the trani, hopefully clean fluid will work it loose again!

How much fluid does the trans hold and I presume it would have a drain hole. I havn"t had a look for it yet.
Thanks.

the drain plugs and screen filters are both under the bottom of the tractor. Fill the trani up to the top of the fill plug (just above the clutch pedal). the fill for the rear and the hydrailic system are the same, just behind the seat, the dipstick is just to the left of the shifter. I don't have the spec book handy but they both take alot of fluid approx 10 gal. each.
