I saw here somewhere that you can use a lift pump off of another brand of tractor on a Major. Is this correct and what other lift pump fits? The factory one is expensive to rebuild/replace I"ve heard.

Ok.I couldn't find that kit four years ago and did the MF thing. All new except the lever that goes into the motor which was swapped from the old to the new.

Thanks Robert, it is your choice Jeff.

Jeff, if you decide against the electric fuel pump, you can go to bare-co.com and order a lift pump kit there for around $14.00. I just rebuilt my Major's pump. The part # you need is 3814. Just make sure it has the diaphram pull rod oil seal which keeps engine oil from getting to the diapham itself. It was missing in the kit I got. A followup call got the additional part. Good luck, Robert

Jim K is right. The electric pump I use for trouble shooting gas and diesel delivery problems is about $60. It seems to be water and vibration resistant where the less expensive ones were not.

The mech pumps are nice when it comes to bleeding the lines though. You only push the aux lever as much as you want. An electric would run while you are on the ground standing by the lines. Maybe if you put a switch close by so you can shut it off while you turn the wrench?

Here is the brand and part number of the mech pump. It has a hand priming lever on it.

Go to your local auto parts store and get a low pressure inline electric fuel pump and plumb it into the fuel feed line bypassing the old lift pump wire in a toggle switch to turn it on and off
and your good to go.P.S get a toggle switch with a lighted handle so that you know when it is on or off from a distance. because you'll inevitably forget to shut it off when shutting down the tractor.
