All,
What tractor is this?
The casting numbers are as follows.
Seat: K27B-Aug. 27 1959?
Axle: K293A-Aug.27 1958?
Starter casting:271725?
Is this a major or power major?
No numbers on block
Thanks

Patty

All,
Mark L. and Jerry G. Thanks for the comments.
The PTO has a shifter behind the axle.
I did find a 13 271725 starter casting number.
Simms pump number:SPFA705380
Any help would help alot.

Anyone have an early diesel pre 1955 Major to compare this with. Here is some numbers off of my 1958 Major:

1463565 (seven digits) on motor above injection pump and on the firewall tag too.
p4a above generator on block.
spe4a75s647 on injection pump.
b10b on transmission by clutch bellcrank & filler plug.

The 1958 has the shifter and small pto transmission that you describe. My hunch is it is an add on and not a live pto (see previous posts) that dealers would add so that you have the equivilent of live pto. This 1958 has been tampered with by someone as it has row crop tires, a paper air box, cut up hood, gauges in the firewall, etc.

Oops, I made a mistake. I looked on my beast and found the starter casting number you referred to. If you look on top of the flat part of the engine block casting where that starter casting bolts to the block you should find the serial number stamped in vertically. You may have to scrape through some grime to see them and they may be filled with paint. Hope this helps.

Jerry G.

Thanks for the tip, I followed your instructions and found the serial number.
Is this a 1955? 1305859
It looks like the motor is a 1955 and the frame is a 1958.

Thanks Patty

The I&T service manual lists that engine serial number as manufactured in August 1954.

Can you post the numbers off of the Simms Pump too? The Majors had the serial number on a two rivet tag on the firewall on the motor side above the valve cover. Power and Supers only had the tag. Maybe a picture would help? Have you been able to verify the live pto, live power option? It seems you might have more than two tractors made into one.

Going by the number you gave as the "Starter Casting". I'd guess you're dealing with a late '53 Major. The serial numbers were 7 digits in length, and started with "12", "13", "14", etc... If you cleaned a little more, you may find that "1" on top. The original data plate may be riveted to the top of the firewall opposite the fuel tank which will also have the info you need.

My tractors all have a casting number right above the generator and below the exhaust manifold. The serial number is above the injection pump, above the lifter cover, right below the head, behind the water hose into the block, on a 1/2 inch by 3 inch flat |_____ _____ | spot _ |___|
