Hello, I've got a Dexta that will start, but only runs full blast. New injectors, rebuilt injection pump. Cleaned out air filter. Need help. Thanks, Jim

The dextas had two pumps, one had oil in it. The ones with oil had a plug at the front on top of the pump about 3/4 or 1,in and a check plug on the side about 1/2 way the pump and drain plug on the bottom. If it dos not have oil it can do that. The other pomp dos not have oil it is a fuel lub pump it has a air filter no the side of the pump.It will have a cover on it about the size of a 25cent piece take the cover off and dig the filter out it will be about 1/4 thick wash it out very good.If you have the fuel lub, pump pour a little auto train oil in the fuel to help keep pump lub.

Take the throttle linkage off and operate the pump throttle lever by hand. Let us know what happens.

Tried this. No difference. White smoke so bad you have to run to get a breath when you shut her down. I'm trying to get a boat machanic who works on perkins to come take a look. No luck there so far. Thanks, Jim

Jim, I have a "59. The injection system is pneumatic, and for instance, if you remove the glow plug from the intake, it will run wide open.
You have a vacuum problem.
I replaced the leather diaphram once on mine, which mounts in the rear of the injection pump.
I"d first check for intake leaks, insure the throttle butterfly on the right side (intake). This is also where you set idle, etc.
Even air cleaner being empty of oil would cause a vacuum issue. Check hoses, seals.
Good luck.
Wayne

Hello, I've tested the leather and it holds air. I refitted the vacuum line and hoses. Could it be a injection pump timing issue? The pump was rebuilt and installed by earlier owner. Thanks, Jim

Before I rebuilt my engine, I started the ether worn addicted perkins with a propane torch stuck in the glow plug hole. It"d fire right up, but idle up fast, and I"d just plug the glow plug back in or cap the hole to idle her down.
