A number of times I have seen references to cleaning the hydraulic oil strainer screen. Being new to all of this, how does one do this? Where is this strainer, and how do I get in to check it? Furthermore, what is the proper level for hydraulic fluid? thanks for any help you can give me.

on the bottom of the trani. 5 or six bolts, have a large drain pan ready. the filter is just a screen, but wait until you see the muck in there. the dip stick for the hydr. is to the left of the shifter handle just at the front corner of the trani housing. the fill port is the large plug behind the seat .

Thank you, Ron. Very helpful. When you say on the "bottom" of the transmission, are you talking about the round plate on the lower right side of the transmission that comes off with five or six bolts?

Ron is right and wrong.

The filter is right where he says but is held in by four studs round the plate with the drain bung in. It is at the bottom/back and you may find that the drawbar will have to be dropped down. Easy with just two pins.

The rectangular plate is the pump pedestal and if you drop this you will have to remove the PTO shaft and drain the oil from the gearbox as well. Big Job. You might also need to take the top off to get the pump feed pipe back in.

Sorry, not the one on the side, the one I'm talking about looks like an inspection cover underneith the belly of the tractor, I'm not at the location of my major so I can't be specific. it might be rectangular about 6X8 inches and I'm not sure but I think there's a drain plug too
