3-point question

When I got my 871 a couple weeks ago, I noticed it was missing the top link for the 3-point. Now, being as I'm a tractor newbie, and had never operated a tractor before this purchase, I assume the top link is required for any 3-point implement use.

I regularly see new top links on eBay, but don't know if I should buy one or try and find a good used one instead. Are the repop ones worth buying or are they junk? Any suggestions as to where to find good, original parts?

Per the CNH website, this item is still available.

Thanks!

Must not be something I need to worry a whole lot about, I won't be using my tractor that often and not likely all that hard. Thanks for the replies!third party image

Just get a new one, and don't spend a pile of money on it. I think you'll find the OEM toplinks are now made in Asia as well, so you buy the cheap toplink for cheap, or you can pay a lot for it....
They're an ongoing expense around here. We buy one every couple years because they either break, strip or bend.

Most of the new ones seem to be made in India and are easily broken. My toplink came with a mower I purchased; it's old but very tough. The cheap, imported toplinks work, but they can leave you in a bad situation if they fail at the wrong time (like maybe driving down the highway and you hit a bump). If you're going to be using any heavy implements, say over 500 lbs, I recommend you try to find a good, US made toplink.

Unfortunately, the nearest TSC is almost 600 miles away (Billings, MT), but I'm sure I can find something here locally (Spokane, WA). There are lots of tractors here in the Palouse region and I'm certain guys here don't all buy factory parts.third party image

Look for any store that has 'Fleet' or 'Farm' in the name, or where the farmer pickups are parked, or where folks buy feed for their horses, or where auction sales bills are hanging in the entrance.

Any machinery dealer will also have them on a rack (does not need to be the same brand place as your tractor) but they will be higher priced for the same thing.

There are 2 basic lengths, would help to know which is better for you. Long or short. I often use the long one, but a couple things the short one is handy.

Well, I don't know. I looked at CNH parts online and I think I need what they call Link, Connecting P/N C5NN576A, which appears to be a complete assy. It doesn't say "No longer serviced" so I assume it is still available new from CNH.

Ken - I've sent you an email, thanks for your offer to help!third party image

Just checked at the NH dealer the first of the week and the top link is availabled by parts only and the locking strap in no longer available. Hang on to your billfold. cost is over $200, yes $200. A $12 one worked in my case. HTH
