I just purchased an English 5000 Diesel. I have changed the oil, but have now read that there is a separate reservoir for injector oil. Can someone tell me where this reservoir is and how to keep a check on it. This is my 1st diesel and I have a lot to learn. By the way, this old girl is carrying a 6 ft. brush hog thru grown up fields without straining. I also need to know if there are air filters beyond the prefilter above the hood? Needless to say I need a service manual.

The Simms-Minnimec Pump has a drain plug on the bottom of the housing and an overflow plug above that allowing you to assess the level of oil in the pump housing. The key to pump survival is keeping that reservior full at all times. You can simply remove the overflow plug and check the level. Also check the consistency of the pump oil, as it mixes with fuel it can thin out. If any question replace the oil using the same 15W-40 High quality lubricant you use in the crankcase. Doing this simple operation will give you years of trouble free service. One other caveat.... almost all of the diesel fuel purchased today has little or no sulfur and is greatly reduced in it's lubricity. One should always add an UPPER CYLINDER LUBRICANT to the diesel fuel. One brand which is excellent is LUCAS Upper Cylinder Lubricant. Very cheap Insurance to avoid a VERY EXPENSIVE PREMATURE OVERHAUL!!! Just my 2 cents

I might add to Richard's advice, to check the oil level in that Simm's pump between engine oil changes as well. You'll probably find that the lubricating oil has been dilluted by fuel oil. Just remember to never run this tractor without oil in that pump --- very expensive repair.
Otherwise , you've got one of the best 60+hp tractors ever produced.

Thanks for all the advice and info. I will make sure the pump stays full. I have run this tractor hard for 3-4 days now and it continues to run strong. I will keep it serviced and hopefully it will continue to run good. This is the 1st tractor I've had equipped with a front end loader which is handy as a pocket on a shirt.

The oil level is in the injector pump, you should locate a level plug,a drain and filler.Uses the same grade of oil as recomended for the engine crankcase, change at the same time as the engine oil.Plugs are screwed in to aluminium so don't over-tighten.Depending on age of your tractor you will find an (most likley) oil bath air cleaner behind the front grille,or (only on a very late tractor) a dry element on the front cowling side.

Thanks, I'll check both injector oil and oil bath air cleaner. I have not determined when built. I was told it was probably an early 70's.
Is there anyone out there that has a service manual they no longer need?

If you want the I&T shop manual, its available here from YTMAG and also from wally world online, see link below.

The New Holland manual is $76 from a NH dealer, and is very complete. Covers 2000-7000 '65-'75 and all variants. Written in the Queen's English.
