Poor Quality??

Hello all,

I just installed an electronic ignition and coil from Genesee Products and now my tractor won't start. There's no fire at the plugs until I switch the ignition off and then there's a spark at the plug nearest the rotor. When I turn the motor over by hand with the ignition swithed on there is no spark at the plugs. I can turn the ignition on and off and get a spark but there is no fire when the motor turns over.

Also I noticed the magnet sleeve that fits over the distributor shaft has alot of play in it. Has anyone here noticed this with these products? I could have as much as ten to twenty degrees of timing play.

The tractor ran well before I installed this product. What gives? Is this a bad ignition set? Should I send it back?

Tractor is a 1949 Ferguson TEA-20 converted to 12 volt negative ground.

Tim

My experience with Genesee has been nothing but positive. I had trouble with one module, but found the problem was due to my own error. I currently have several of the kits on order! Check your wiring with a test light on the bench, and make sure the positive ground system was fully reversed. The sheet included with your kit will give you some simple tests that will help diagnose the problem. If you can't get it sorted out, call Andy, as he is very helpful and knowledgeable about their systems. Good luck. Stan

Thanks for the feedback. I did not get a sheet with any trouble shooting hints. Maybe you could email these to me.

I will say that these folks were good to work with and my order was delivered promptly. I'm glad I didn't get bad feedback because I want to use this system if we can work out the problem.

Tim

had similar problem on my 20-85. only difference is that i hadn't converted to neg ground. my problem was where the wire goes from the coil to the distributor. it was grounding against the metal housing inside the distributor. there had also been some mods in this area by previous owners.
Something to to look for.
