I have a Z-129 engine that has 3 seperate hairline cracks between the cylinders. I've read the discussions about pinning the engine. What size rods should be used? Do the sleeves have to be notched?
Can they be welded (by a qualified welder of course)?
Any info would be helpful.
THANKS

Rods must be stainless steel. I think the ones in my TO30 are 1/4 inch.

Bob, Let me ask you a couple of questions about your Z129 engine.
1. Why did you tear it down, was it leaking oil or water into radiator? Or did you just tear it down to rebuild and found the cracks?
2. Have you looked at the bottom end to see if it has any cracks? They were prone to cracks there too. Sometimes we tear one down and see the cracks in them and get concerned about them and if the truth were known, they been there for years. Today we don't generally use them as hard as they used to be used and can get by with a crack or two and some stopleak. Thought you'd like an opinion. L8R----Fred Martin, Greenfield, Ohio
