I have converted my TO30 to 12v but all I had to do was hook up large stud on alt. not the other 2 small spades. It seems to be charging fine, as I had an ammeter on it and it showed a large charge initally then slowly back to center. Also did not run on after turning off the key. Question is am I hurting something by not having any of those small spades hooked up,although the alt.is a Delco 7127 it also had "self exciting" printed on the box it came in. I also changed to 12v coil, it was $13 for the new coil or keep the old coil and pay $7 for the resistor, opted for the new coil!

You are fine as it is with the one wire self exciting voltage regulator. The box said self exciting and it was. If you ever need to get it repaired be sure to the the repair person it is a self exciting alt.
