I've got a 1948 ford 8n that was purchased used. The center of the hub of the rear wheels is smooth and without the large center nut that is usually found on a 8n. Has anyone ever heard of interchanging ford rear axles with axles from a ferguson?

It could be that someone has put the rear differential etc from a 9N or 2N Ford on the 8N front part.

If the hub on the end of the axle is about 12" in diameter it is a 9N Ford axle. If it is about 5" diameter it is a Ferguson axle????? ?

Also if it has either of these axles it may not have position or height control on the hydraulic lift.

If that is the case you should look at the web site below.

Doug, a friend of mine (now deceased) who was a highly skilled tractor mechanic claimed that axles from a Ferguson TO-35 would fit an 8N.
