Iam having trouble getting to the rear brakes on my TE20. I have removed the wheels and assumed that the rear brake drum would just tap off, mine won't! Should I hid it harder or do I have to take something else off?
Thanks Terry

Hi...

There should be two(2) large slotted head screws that hold each brake drum to the hub. Remove these screws, back off the adjustment for the brake shoes, gently pursuade the drums(large hammer)... They should come free. Good luck!

Thanks Bernie, found the two large slotted screws, can't shift them though! Afraid of rounding the head I even welded up a tool to try and remove them, (just a simple "T" shape with the flat head at the base of the "T") to help me get more leverage. I have let them soak overnight in WD40. Iam concidering heating them in the morning, good idea?
Any other advice on how to remove these bugar's is much appreciated!
Thanks
Terry

I had the same problem when I needed to replace the axle seals on my MF35. I finally center punched the screw head, drilled the head part off/out, and was able to pull the drums off. Then I drilled through the remaining piece of the bolt and used an easy out (NOT THE SCREW TYPE!! They're crap). Worked for me. By the way do yourself a favor and use anti-seize on the new screws, it makes it a heck of a lot easier the next time you pull a brake drum. Luck luck

I hope you got those Brake Drums off and can tell me how you did it. I am having the same problem getting those big slotted screws out too!

Hi,

Glad that you found them! I had to ues a hammer and punch to get them loose(CCW to undo), take care though as you might break the head off of the screw. I doubt that heat would work as the axle shaft which the screws are screwed into is quite thick... A good "tap" loosened mine right up... Good Luck!
