I just rebuilt the engine (and oil pump) on my TO-20. I started the engine this morning but have no oil pressure. I ran it for 10 seconds or so, and when I saw the oil gauge wasn't going to move, I shut it off for a few minutes and tried it again -- same result. I pulled the oil pan off and took the pump out. I stuck the inlet in a tub of oil, spun it over by hand and it puked oil out just fine. When installed, it meshes fine with the crank gear. I always use a lot of assembly lube, and I noticed there was still plenty of it on the front main bearing so I don't think I've hurt anything. Some questions and comments: 1) The center pipe that goes through the oil filter has a .050" inch hole in the side of it, and according to the diagram in my manual, oil from this hole feeds the filter. It seems quite small, but it has been running like this for at least the 24 years I've owned it so I know that's not the problem. It's just a curiosity. Any comments? 2) Does this system need to be primed first? If so, how does one go about doing that? 3) Does the tube that connects the pump with the pickup casting require air-tight connections for the pump to pick up oil? If so, where does one get the (what appear to be) special rubber seals? (They seems to be in pretty good shape, however.) 4) When I pulled the (new) filter off, it was wet part way up, but the flat area on top was completely dry. For whatever reason (like no oil pressure!) there was never any oil there. 5) I'm not sure I have the filter unit, with all the cups, screens, springs, etc. assembled correctly, and would like some input on this. The manual I have is no help. Thanks!!
