I have a TEA20 that had already be converted to 12 volt system when I bought it. I had to replace the alternator as it is no longer working. The alternator did not have a regulator so that was wired up in conjunction with an external regulator. I have bought an alternator that is 3 wired. The Battery post wire is wired to the (+) side of the ammeter and inturn the (-) side is wired to the same connection where the positive wire come from the battery to the starter switch. The number one terminal is wired to the ignition switch and the number two terminal is wired to the battery post on the alternator. My question is should the number one terminal be wired to the same side of the ignition switch as the coil and lights? If I do that, will I have to bring over a seperate wire from the battery to ignition switch? I guess my question is how should the ignition switch receive power, from the alternator or the Battery? Thanks.

It's interesting that you posted this question because while at work today I decided to ask almost the same question. I also have a three wire alternator and for some reason the battery never gets charged. I plan to take the alternator to an automotive shop for a test but in the mean-time I would like to know if anyone out there could provide us with a wiring diagram for the 12V conversion with a three wire set-up. A wiring diagram speaks about a thousand words and word pictures tend to be very confusing sometimes. Thanks
