Getting ready to overhaul engine

I'm planning to overhaul the engine on my TO-30 in a month or two. I've never split a tractor before and I've been studying my new shop manual. I realize that I'll have to prop the rear part of the tractor (transmission and rear end) and also the front end or else I'll get some sore toes. My question is - what should I attach the front prop to? I can't use the flange on the bottom of the engine because that is where the oil pan is bolted to and I'll have to remove the pan during the overhaul. I see in the manual that they are using an angle iron support of some kind but I cannot make out what it's attached to. Any suggestions? I apologize in advance if I become a bother but I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the next few weeks. Thanks guys.

When I did my 20 I just put a jack under the front axle in the center and raised it until the wheels were off the ground. Then I put cement blocks topped by a plank under the transmission just behind the bellhousing. Then let it down on the blocks, removed the bolts holding the front end on and lowered it witht the jack. Then you can disconnect the steering and the radius arms and remove the front end in one piece. Now you have easy access to the engine. I took the rear wheels off also but only because I needed to pull an axle.
A comment was made earlier that cement blocks are not a good idea because they might break. Mine didn't but I can see the point so perhaps wood blocks would be a better plan.
If you click on the "tractor pics" link below you should go to some pictures of my project.

I have a TO-35 with cracked block between #1 & #2 and #3 & #4 cyclinders. How did you use the pins to repair the cracks? I have my entire tractor torn down for restoration. My father purchased it new in 1955. It was only used for 3 years on the farm (only 1350 hours) however is has set up for the last 30 years in the barn. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

OK Bud, now you've done gone and done it! (I sound like Shania Twain) Thanks a million for the advice and pics. I have spent the past hour and a half studying those pictures and now I have a thousand questions. I'll take it slowly and try to learn as much as possible along the way.

I just wanted to say thanks, Boogity in S.W. Ohio

Your certainly welcome for the info and if you only have a thousand questions you must be smarter than I am. Mine is back running and I have questions left over :-)
One thing I would recommend is that you take the time to think about all the things you need to do "while I have it apart" and try to get a handle on the cost of parts and any labor you aren't prepared to do.
My personality type is such that I have a very hard time with good enough which caused me to spend a bunch on my rebuild. I don't regret what I did but it was more than I expected.
In any case this board is a great resource.
